March 2023

Berufsorientierung zum Anfassen

On 01.03.2023 a working group meeting of the professional drivers was invited to the premises of the company Wernsing. The invitation was accepted by 16 participants, including trainers from various logistics companies, IHK training consultants and teachers from the Adolf Kolping School.

The first item on the agenda was an entertaining company presentation by Maike Biermann (Wernsing personnel officer).

Andreas Hülsmann (warehouse specialist trainer) took the trainees on a journey into his everyday working life.

In the last item on the agenda, Silke Brinkmann was able to provide insights into current training figures and class sizes for the training profession of professional driver at AKS and, in addition to the criteria for shortening the training, presented the project week on the topic of load securing that will take place in the near future in cooperation with the Handelslehranstalten Lohne. The afternoon ended with open discussions about the newly gained impressions and insights.

Seven classes of the vocational entry school of the Adolf-Kolping-Schule Lohne (AKS) had the opportunity to participate in a special kind of career orientation on Wednesday, 22.02.2023: The PHW Group was a guest with a silo vehicle.

Adrian Heuer (Managing Director MEGA Logistik) and his colleagues Tatjana Schulz (OGS), Karina Sattler (OGS), Stephanie Holscher (MEGA) and Sabrina Escher (GePro) first gave the AKS learners a brief insight into the PHW companies MEGA, GePro and OGS and then presented the apprenticeship professions of professional driver and warehouse logistics. The students also learned about the "Drive The Fat Thing" campaign, for example.

As a special highlight of the career orientation event, all participants in the seven classes even had a chance to win something - provided they solved a practical math problem involving determining how long the truck queue of an annual production of poultry feed from MEGA is. Those who had determined the correct result - 768 km, i.e. a truck queue from Lohne to Munich - received a "Fahr Da s Dicke Ding" bag from Sabrina Escher.

After the presentation, the students went out into the fresh air to take a close look at the "workplace" of a professional driver. The students were not only allowed to take a test drive in the driver's cab, but also to inspect the truck all around. MEGA trainee Dennis Duckwitz, who is currently completing his 3rd year of training at AKS, not only demonstrated the specific features of a silo truck, but also answered all the curious questions and told them about his day-to-day training.
